Q: What is the name of your company and when did you = start=20 it?

She Sings Out, Inc, which produces Voice=20 Lesson To Go.

Company started in 2005

Q: What is your name & how many children do you=20 have?

Ariella Vaccarino. A 3 =C2=BD year old boy, a 2 year old boy and a = baby boy on the=20 way (due date in about 2 weeks).

Q: What was the inspiration behind your = company?

As an opera singer and voice teacher and pregnant, I knew that I = wanted the=20 ability to stay at home with my kids and still earn a good income. I had = been=20 teaching voice for years and one day decided that I could record these = lessons=20 and sell them repeatedly, creating passive income for myself and family. = This=20 was a way for me to continue with one aspect of my music career (voice = teacher)=20 while putting the other aspect of my music career (opera singer) on hold = until=20 my children were sleeping through the night (which has yet to happen, = especially=20 with a third baby on the way).

Also, I felt and saw a need for my product. I wanted to bring quality = vocal=20 instruction to the masses. I knew how much private voice lessons were = because I=20 taught them. I saw from American Idol and other reality music shows like = Nashville Star and America=E2=80=99s Got Talent how so many people out = there had a=20 secret dream to sing but new nothing about how to approach it. I saw a = need and=20 new I had an answer that could benefit aspiring singers.

Q: How long did it take you to earn a profit from your=20 business?

It was immediate. The cost to go into business was the cost of = recording and=20 manufacturing the CDs. I started seeing a profit almost immediately = after the=20 CDs were available for purchase.

Q: What obstacles (if any) did you face along the way & = how did=20 you overcome them?

I still struggle with the fact that I have a lot of ideas, but am = untrained=20 in business or various computer skills and the fact that it costs money = to hire=20 people to create graphics, upload them for you, do PR, get search engine = optimization (SEO), create ezines etc. Since I don=E2=80=99t have time = to learn how to=20 do all of these very specialized things, I look for individuals who are = skilled=20 in such areas. Everything I spend comes out of my family=E2=80=99s = pocket, which means=20 it comes out of the preschool fund or, Disneyland fund etc. I have to = consider=20 the whole family prior taking on a new expense.

Q: Did you ever feel like quitting? What kept you=20 going?

Not with this business. It is so easy compared to my Opera career. = I=E2=80=99ve=20 created a product that people need and sell it. I do wish that I had = more time=20 to put into it and grow it because I know it can be huge. I need to have = patience with myself considering how busy I am as a mom right now.

In regards to Opera, it was hard. I had to bang the pavement and = there were=20 no guarantees no matter how good I was.

Q: What quality/qualities (i.e., tenacity, discipline, time = management) do you think are necessary for a mom = entrepreneur?

BALANCE=E2=80=A6 You need to be able to think out of the box, and = really believe in=20 yourself. Work actually can be a fun break from =E2=80=9Cmommy = hood=E2=80=9D since it uses a=20 whole different side of your brain and is an adult activity. No tantrums = or=20 unexpected poop disasters. And remember, within 3 years they are in = preschool=20 and within five they are in school daily till 3pm. This time will go by = so fast,=20 make peace with your mommy schedule.

Q: How do you juggle career and children?

I work on that daily. It seems to shift as my business needs shift. = For=20 example, if I am creating a new CD or writing a book of vocal exercises, = I may=20 get hyper focused and need extra help and time from the babysitter. Then = other=20 times I may barely use extra help and spend my time in playgrounds with = the=20 kids. What is important to me is that I have created something easy. It = does not=20 require 15 hours a day. I can choose how much I put in and how much I = get=20 out.

The other secret is being content with the choices you make. I still = struggle=20 with it. But rather than feel guilty about the three hours you may take = away=20 from your kids to do some work, commit yourself instead fully to the = time that=20 you are with your kids so that they feel that you are a solid presence = for them.=20 Try not to be half way in, checking emails, making calls during = =E2=80=9Ctheir time=E2=80=9D.=20 This way they won=E2=80=99t feel like they have to fight for your = attention when you are=20 with them.

Q: Do you have employees?

I have people who work for me freelance, like a publicist, book = keeper, SEO=20 person, web designer etc, but no one who is full time for = me.
Q: What=20 one thing (book, website, coach, tool, blog, service, etc) was VERY = INSTRUMENTAL=20 in your success?The Artists Way was very = inspiring.
Q: What=20 is your favorite quote?
Q: What advice would you = give to a=20 new mom entrepreneur? Find other mom entrepreneurs to socialize = with,=20 bounce ideas off of, and network with.

Q: Who were others that you looked up to during your = successful=20 rise?

I am inspired by anyone who creates passive income for themselves and = their=20 family. I think it is brilliant.
